A Study of Gallows on Eggs

1992

Twenty ink drawings on chicken eggs in a wooden box
Each egg is pierced with a dowel, and can be viewed
by turning with it
3.75" x 3" x 3"
The case is a recycled Italian wine box
14" x 20" x 3.5"

The egg is a common symbol, most typically representing birth, the life cycle or the earth. Referencing the handicraft tradition of decorating eggs, Böröcz drew his gallows images, ironically playing with the obvious contrast of life and death symbolism.
